I went to my first holiday party of the season last weekend. It’s real guys. The holidays are here, and in full effect!!
This is a season that is full of so much hope and wonder and love among family, friends, and your relationships. But it’s also a season that can present so much inner conflict…with memories of love lost, reflections of the year that’s quickly ending, or struggling to find your way and place in the coming new year.
I too have lost a dear loved one during a past holiday season. My memories of the fun we had see saw with the reminder of his tragic death during that year. What has helped me over the years are the people in my life who were simply there. They have no idea the present that their presence gave me.
My outlook on what it means to support someone changed so much that year. By no means am I a perfect friend, but since I know better, I try to do better.
‘Tis the season to be a present by being present.
So this season, I’m challenging myself, and invite you to join me.
- Pick a friend. Pick a family member. Even consider a coworker.
- Send them a greeting card or a letter in the mail.
- Spend time with them. Be present. Be a present.
Never underestimate the power of human connection.
